3/4 Category Race:
The first race of the night was the 45 minute 3rd and 4th category race. This was an aggressive race and Avid Sport young riders were never far from the action.

At 15 minutes into the race we had the first prime, and this was won by series leader Sean Adams of SRCT Development Team, followed by Daniel Burt, Harvin Johal of Salt & Sham CC and Gabriel Hamon of Cardiff Jif.
At 30 minutes into the race we had the second prime, and it was won by Reflex Racing rider Caleb Moon who took the maximum points, followed by Charles Thibault of Bath CC, Sean Adams and Peter Davies.
Leader of the Sprint Competition now passes to Caleb Moon of Reflex Racing.

With 3 laps to go Luke Godfrey of PDQ Cycle Coaching and Charlie McFadzean made a break for it and almost clung on to stay away for the victory. Robert Pears of Bath Cycling Club had other ideas though and brought back the break and took the win ahead of Rick Hawker of Velo Vitesse and Peter Davies. The Overall Series lead is joint between Caleb Moon and Rick Hawker, so the final round should be a thrilling showdown!!

Masters Race:
It was another amazing evening where the weather Gods were kind to us. The threat of rain was always there but it held off thankfully for a dry evening of racing.
Going into this penultimate round we had Justin Hoy of Pronto Bike CC in the Red Stimulus Sport jersey, but sadly absent through illness was our sprints leader Frazer White, leaving his lead vulnerable.
The race was aggressive as ever with moves being fired off up the road all the time. Never far from the action was Cardiff Jif rider Andy Hoskins who has to be noted as the most aggressive rider of the night. We even had the red jersey out in front for a while as Justin tapped off the front, chased down hard by 2nd in the series Tristan Stevens of PDQ Cycle Coaching, sensing the danger.
A break of 5 riders, Colin Parry of PDQ Cycle Coaching, Andy Edwards of FTP Racing, Andy Hoskins, Graeme Lackford of Team Tor 2000 and John Russell of Reflex Racing got away. By all accounts that contained some really strong riders and a good mix of teams represented, but they lacked representation of the Series Leader Pronto Bikes CC and so this was doomed to fail. And it was Nicolas Beale on the front of the bunch working hard to bring the break back for his team captain.
The first prime was won by Steven Whitehurst of Reflex Racing, helping his quest to snatch the lead in the Sprints competition. Justin Hoy crossed in 2nd place followed by Tristan Stevens and Adrian Warren of Pronto Bike CC.
There were splinter groups that managed to escape the bunch over the following laps but nothing was getting much distance, the bunch was marking everything.
The second prime was won by Dave Turton of Pronto Bikes CC, followed by Jeremy Broughton of Reflex Racing, both denying Steven Whitehurst maximum points for the night who crossed the line 3rd ahead of Tristan Stevens. The 7 points scored on the night for Steve was enough to put him 3 points clear in the Sprints Competition and an exciting finale ahead in the final round of the series.
Another rider who was ever present in the moves and always near the front of the bunch was Tristan Stevens. Tristan formed a break with John Russell of Reflex Racing with 5 laps to go and they worked hard to try and stay away. Andy Hoskins bridged the gap to make it 3 riders.

As the bell rang the breakaway were reeled back in and it was all set up for a bunch gallop. Sadly our series leader had health problems during the race and lost contact with the bunch with 5 laps to go so wouldn’t be contesting the win.
Going down the back straight it was again Andy Hoskins lighting it up and escaping the bunch trying his trademark 1 lap flyer to try and win the race. He was caught with just 50m to go and managed to hold on for 7th place. Andy Edwards led home the chase and took the win ahead of Marco Panfilo of Reflex Racing and Dave Turton.

And so the Series Leader jersey changes hands too and Andy Edwards, who pulls 11 points clear of his closest rival Steven Whitehurst, will pull on the red jersey in the finale on 4th July. It’s so tight from 2nd to 6th places overall and in the age group categories, with 3 riders in the 50-59 years category tied for the lead, it’s sure to be a great finale!

We want to wish Justin Hoy well and also Andy Hoskins who came down hard in a race on Friday evening.
