9th June was round 3 of the inaugural PDQ Newport Live Track Night of a new prestigious track racing Series at Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales in Newport. BC points and big prize money is on offer for this race series, prizes kindly donated by our sponsors of this event Carbotech Ltd and 73 Degrees Bicycle Shop.

The racing on offer was Category B races and Masters 35yrs+. A fantastic first evening of racing in this series, certainly fast and furious races in both categories.
The variety of riders taking part was great to see. In the B category we had riders of different age groups from Junior to riders in their 60’s, a mix of genders and abilities. We had riders in the B cat who were riding their 2nd ever event up to seasoned racers in the Masters. This just shows that this series caters for such a wide range of riders, something for everybody.
Both the B Category and the Masters races included a 5km Scratch Race, 13-lap Tempo race, 6-Lap Dash and a 10km Points Race.
It was Junior rider Reuben Cox from Abergavenny RC dominating the Category B races claiming victory in all 4 races on the night and putting himself into 4th place overall in the series after missing the 2nd round. There’s just 2 points separating the top 2 places in the series with Vince Ellis of Velo Schils – Interbike RT taking the series lead ahead of John Berry of PDQ Cycle Coaching., with Kevin Garland of PDQ Cycle Coaching in 3rd place.

It was also domination in the Masters races with Oliver Hambrey of Team HUUB taking the win in all 4 races on the night and going 12 points clear in the series overall lead ahead of Nicholas English of Aerocoach. Byron Hooper of PDQ Cycle Coaching lies 3rd overall, 8 points behind Nicholas English.
