PDQ Odd Down Race Series - Race 2 Reports

The second race in our Odd Down Race Series saw 30 riders take to the start in warm and breezy conditions.

The race was impressively aggressive from the start with an attack on the first lap by 18 year old Bradford-on-Avon rider, Matthew Smart. He stayed ahead of the bunch for a couple of laps before being joined by Daniel Burt. This duo then worked well together to build a lead of up to 15 seconds over the bunch. At half distance Craig Denning of Dream Cycles and Daniel Pons of Blaydon CC escaped the bunch and bridged the gap to the leading duo.

The bunch had some spirited attempts to get an organised chase together, but the now 4-man break away was to stay away and battle it out at the finish.

Daniel Pons took the Sprint from the break to take victory, with Matthew Smart 2nd, and Daniel Burt 3rd.

The bunch was lead home shortly by Leigh Turnbull of PDQ Cycle Coaching comfortably taking the bunch sprint.

This was a fantastic race to watch, impressive for riders who were trying their hand at their first race.

Well wishes go to Samuel Pitcher who was unfortunate to crash early in the race and forced to retire.

Masters Women's Race Report - Round 2

The second race in our Odd Down Masters Women’s Race Series saw just 5 riders take to the start in warm and breezy conditions.

The ladies worked well together with some efforts to get away. However, the bunch stayed together to the finish and it was Miriam Whitehurst of Somer Valley CC who appeared first from the bottom corner taking it on for a long sprint. Karen Spiteri of Avid Sport came across the line to take 2nd ahead of Sara James of Clevedon & District RC.

It was great to see riders who were taking on their first bike race do so well in this race along with some seasoned bike riders.

Masters Men's Race Report - Round 2

The second race in our Odd Down Race Masters Series saw 29 riders take to the start in warm and breezy conditions.

This was an eagerly anticipated race with the start list stacked with talent. Taking to the start line were ex-pro riders along with those currently racing the National Tour Series to National, LVRC and World Masters Champions across multiple disciplines.

It was no surprise that the race was aggressive from the start with an attack on the first lap by BIKESTRONG-KTM rider Andy Edwards. Riders in 1s and 2s gradually bridged across until the break swelled to 9 riders. This group was to splinter towards the finish with 7 riders in the front break and a duo staying away ahead of the bunch. Tri UK and Ely teams both worked hard on the front of the bunch trying to bring the break back but it was well policed by Bath CC who had series leader Rob Pears away in the break.

The sprint from the break was won convincingly by Rob Pears to take the victory, followed by Andy Edwards in 2nd and John Russell of Bristol RC in 3rd.

Chris Davis of Giant Halo took the bunch sprint for 11th ahead of Leslie Thomas of Tri UK.
